The Barking Schools contract, in operation by Ecovert FM since completion in the summer of 2005 played host earlier in October to a group of headteachers and staff from the Lewisham Schools PFI project.
Barry Coleman (Ecovert FM Contracts Mgr) and Chris Evans (Ecovert FM Divisional Director, Education) along with Dominique Lambrecht (Bouygues UK, Education Director) welcomed the group to Jo Richardson Community School in Dagenham to begin the visit with a presentation of the contract. Following details of the legal structure, contract scope and monitoring principles, the Lewisham group were then taken on a visit of the facilities at JRCS which was entirely new-build and open to new students from September 2005.
The school has extensive music, drama, sports, IT and Design & Technology facilities including studios and workshops for both academic and vocational studies. It also provides extended use areas for the community through a separate entrance which gives access to shared use of the sports, music and drama facilities as well as a public library also used by students during school hours.
Ecovert FM gave the group an insight into our maintenance strategy and methods by giving them a demonstration of the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) tools in use via the central Helpdesk, based at JRCS, as well as mobile 'tablets' used by engineers and technicians to update progress on reactive job requests and planned preventive maintenance tasks. As these methods would also be used at the Lewisham Schools, it was good to see that there was enthusiasm to further share knowledge and experience in these areas between operational maintenance staff directly from both sites.
The group then visited Eastbury Comprehensive School, where Bouygues UK completed construction of an extension to the existing building and refurbishment of additional areas whilst the school remained fully open. During the course of the visits to both schools, Ecovert FM was particularly pleased with the Lewisham group's reaction to both the design of both schools as well as their comments as to the excellent condition of building fabric, over one year into operation.
The Barking Schools contract is our leading example of the excellent working relationship formed between Bouygues UK as main contractor for design and build and Ecovert FM as ongoing service provider. By ensuring an integrated approach from the very earliest stages, to a seamless handover of the finished project and ongoing support during the operational stages, Bouygues UK and Ecovert FM provide the very highest standards of new educational and leisure facilities for students, staff and the local community.
We are looking forward to building on the experience of the Barking Schools project and provide all users of Crofton Secondary, Greenvale SEN and Forest Hill Secondary Schools with the same high quality environment for the next 30 years.
